African Philanthropy Forum is Building a Community Committed to the Inclusive and Sustainable Development of Africa

African Philanthropy Forum (APF) is a strong and vibrant community of partners who through their strategic giving, investments, and influence, foster inclusive and shared prosperity on the African continent. As an organization, APF actively seeks to transform the culture of giving in Africa to an extent where it exceeds development aid by 2030.

Africa Philanthropy Forum  was established in 2014 to build a learning community of strategic African philanthropists and social investors committed to inclusive and sustainable development throughout the Continent. It was incubated by the Global Philanthropy Forum (GPF), a global network of strategic philanthropists and social investors committed to international causes from 2014 – 2016. In 2017, it became an independent entity and continues to be an affiliate of the GPF. Africa Philanthropy Forum is led  by Mosun Layode who serves as its Executive Director.

Since becoming an independent entity, APF has reached over 950 philanthropists and social investors in Africa and across the world, bringing the total number to over 1400 since 2014.Over the years, APF has established a stronger presence on the Continent, with footprints in Egypt, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda, through its regional meetings and conferences.

Africa Philanthropy Forum has also invested in the development of the ‘Toolkit for African Philanthropists’ and the “Why Give” Series, which consists of interviews with Africa’s strategic philanthropic leaders to showcase their motivations for giving.

The organization recently launched a new report titled Disparities in Funding for African NGOs in collaboration with the Bridgespan Group. Over the years, they have organized various workshops and annual conferences, including partnering to host the 2nd Africa Philanthropy Conference 2021 this August.

APF is driven to enhance and amplify development impact across Africa, through the giving and investing of their members. The organization values collaboration and partnerships and serves as a catalyst for like-minded individuals and organizations to achieve this, towards a strengthened network.

Membership with APF is open to philanthropists, social investors, private, family, and corporate foundations that have made or plan to make significant contributions to the development of Africa.
